Putney CEO Jean Hoffman Wins New England Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year™ Award

Portland, ME—June 12, 2014—Jean Hoffman, president and CEO of Putney, Inc., was named the New England Ernst & Young (EY) Entrepreneur of the Year™ 2014 in the Life Sciences category in recognition of her success in building Putney into the largest generics company in the veterinary pharmaceutical industry. Upon receiving the award at EY’s 28th annual Entrepreneur of the Year Awards Gala in New England, Hoffman credited her team who she said is “overcoming obstacles and accomplishing our goal of making pet healthcare more affordable.” Under Hoffman’s leadership, Putney is disrupting the veterinary market by developing and commercializing high quality, generic pet medicines where lack of competition has forced pet owners to pay inflated prices.
Hoffman says winning the award in the life sciences category underscores the world-class scientific program that Putney has developed to bring its five FDA-approved pet medicines to market since the company’s launch in 2006. “The scientific and technical barriers to entry are high, which is one of the reasons why no one else has been able to develop an entire portfolio of FDA-approved generic pet medicines. Our heavy investment in R&D has produced the largest pipeline of new product launches in animal health,” says Hoffman.
As a New England award winner, Hoffman is nominated to EY’s national Entrepreneur Of The Year 2014 program. Award winners in several national categories, as well as the Entrepreneur Of The Year National Overall Award winner, will be announced at the annual awards gala in Palm Springs, California, on November 15, 2014. Previous national award winners include Putney board member Bruce Downey, who won as CEO of Barr Pharmaceuticals.
