Dr. Kapila Ratnam is a General Partner at NewSpring, focused on the firm's dedicated healthcare strategy. Since joining NewSpring in 2007, she has brought over two decades of healthcare industry experience to bear on investments across healthcare services, pharmaceutical services, and life sciences, partnering with founders and management teams to accelerate growth, professionalize operations, and drive successful outcomes.
Kapila is known for her ability to underwrite and partner with management teams at the intersection of clinical complexity and scalable business models. Her background in pharmaceutical R&D and healthcare strategy enables her to assess risk, regulatory nuance, and operational execution in a way that few growth equity investors can. She is an active board member and long-term partner to portfolio companies, with board experience spanning provider platforms, healthcare services, and biologics manufacturing. Notable investments include Paragon Bioservices, which grew from a small biologics manufacturer into a scaled CDMO before being acquired for approximately $1.2 billion, as well as AeroSafe Global, vybe urgent care, InHome Therapy, and Patheous Health, among others. Beyond her investing work, Kapila is an active advocate for strengthening women's presence in private equity, mentoring talent and helping shape a more inclusive industry.
Prior to NewSpring, Kapila worked in the health sciences division at PSI International, supporting outsourced services to the pharmaceutical industry and government health service agencies. Before that, she served as a strategy consultant to early-stage pharmaceutical services and biotech companies and worked in R&D at GlaxoSmithKline Pharmaceuticals.
Kapila holds an MBA from Columbia University and a Ph.D. from The Ohio State University.
