Putney CEO Jean Hoffman named E & Y Entrepreneur of the Year Finalist

Portland, ME—May 19, 2014—Jean Hoffman, president and CEO of Putney, Inc., has been named a finalist for the Ernst & Young (EY) Entrepreneur of the Year™ 2014 Award in the New England region. The awards program recognizes entrepreneurs who demonstrate excellence and extraordinary success in such areas as innovation, financial performance and personal commitment to their businesses and communities. Since founding Putney in 2006, a pet pharmaceutical company focused on the development and sale of generic prescription medicines for pets, Hoffman has raised over $45 million in capital, recruited a world-class team of talent, developed the deepest pipeline in veterinary medicine and launched five FDA-approved veterinary generic products.
Hoffman says she is gratified to be selected as a finalist by the Ernst & Young judges in recognition of her success in building and leading a company that is fulfilling an unmet market need for generic pet medicines. When Hoffman launched Putney, only 7% of all FDA-approved pet medicines had a generic available, despite many of them having long-expired patents. “Our long term strategy – investing heavily in R&D and quality – is paying off. I am proud to lead my team as we overcome the daunting scientific, technical and commercial obstacles that have prevented other companies from capitalizing on this market opportunity,” says Hoffman.
Labeled a “serial entrepreneur” by Time magazine, Hoffman has over thirty years experience in the pharmaceutical industry. Earlier in her career she built Newport Strategies, a generic industry data analysis company that she sold to Thomson Reuters in 2004, and then went on to found Q Street Advisors, a consulting and mergers and acquisitions (M&A) advisory firm for the global generic industry before launching Putney.
Regional award winners will be announced at a special gala event on June 10, 2014 at the Sheraton Boston and will be eligible for consideration for the EY Entrepreneur Of The Year National program. Award winners in several national categories, as well as the EY Entrepreneur Of The Year National Overall Award winner, will be announced at the annual awards gala in Palm Springs, California, on November 15, 2014.
