Raritan Named by CRN as One of the IT Industry's Tech Innovators
December 03, 2014
SOMERSET, NJ (December 3, 2014)—Raritan, a leading provider of data center infrastructure management (DCIM) and rack power distribution solutions, announced today that it has been named one of the industry’s leading tech innovators by CRN. CRN editors presented Raritan the Tech Innovator Award in the Data Center Infrastructure category for the innovative hybrid design used in its new Intelligent Rack Transfer Switch product line.
The Raritan transfer switch is one of the fastest in the industry—transferring loads from one power source to another when it senses a power loss. Because it is fast and seamless, the switch helps keep data center equipment operating through power failures.
Raritan’s patent-pending hybrid design uses the best of both electromechanical relay and silicon-controlled rectifier (SCR) technologies to provide fast and highly reliable power transfers. By sampling current 4,800 times per second with built-in sensors, the switch transfers loads within four to eight milliseconds—twice as fast as standard automatic transfer switches. The switch is also more energy efficiency than static transfer switches.
Each year, CRN honors the high-tech companies that have delivered outstanding innovation in hardware and software solutions over the past 12 months. CRN Test Center editors reviewed hundreds of products across 18 hardware and software categories to determine the winners.
The Tech Innovator Awards recognize the companies and products that have used innovation to advance technology, increase productivity, and reduce cost and complexity in ways that provide value to the channel. These awards guide solution providers toward today’s biggest technology breakthroughs so they can incorporate them into advanced solutions for their customers.
“We are delighted that CRN editors recognized the innovations in our new Intelligent Rack Transfer Switch,” said David Wood, Director of Raritan’s Power Business. “In data centers every millisecond counts when there is a power failure. We designed our new rack transfer switch to be one of the fastest and one of the smartest in the industry to support the power needs of our customers so that operations are not interrupted.”
Paul Albright, CEO of DeltaWare Inc., added “The new hybrid transfer switch is one more example that demonstrates Raritan’s ability to understand data center management problems and its ability to apply ingenuity to solve these issues. In this case, they created a fast hybrid transfer switch—using the best of both electromechanical relay and SCR technologies. They didn’t stop there; they added intelligence to the switch so that it can monitor power at the PDU unit-level and support capacity planning.”
“Solution providers are facing tough challenges as the IT industry continues to evolve at a rapid pace,” said Robert Faletra, CEO of The Channel Company, publisher of CRN. “Being able to quickly and reliably identify the best new solutions in key technology categories is of great importance to them as they look for innovative ways to earn a competitive advantage. The winners and runners-up in the CRN Tech Innovator Awards represent the best and brightest products and solutions in today’s market, and are some of the most important for solution providers to keep an eye on in the coming year.”
The annual Tech Innovator Awards are showcased in the December issue of CRN magazine and online at www.crn.com.
