Gone are the days when the CFO is narrowly viewed as “chief bean counter.”

Today, with the intense scrutiny and oversight of their work, coupled with the ever-changing marketplace, every one of them is under immense pressure. Indeed, we often refer to CFOs as the unsung heroes of the C-suite. And we doubt that many CFOs in Greater Philadelphia would disagree with us.

The Philadelphia Business Journal CFO of the Year Awards honor the best and the brightest: these executives exemplify the professionalism, integrity, resilience, mastery of all the financial and people skills that make a great CFO.

How did we choose the winners? They were selected by the Business Journal editorial team from a slate of nominees. We focused on several criteria that included the following: financial accomplishments, tenure and scope of responsibilities, leadership, respect and influence within the company, community involvement and stewardship of the company’s business model.

You're going to learn a lot more about these folks in the coming weeks. Look for a special section in the July 13 issue of the Philadelphia Business Journal and video interviews with the honorees on PBJ.com.

On July 12, the Philadelphia Business Journal will host the 2018 CFO of the Year Awards. The event will take place from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Loews Philadelphia Hotel in Center City.
