Ryan Schafer

Ryan Schafer is a Vice President at NewSpring dedicated to the Business Development efforts of the Firm’s Growth Equity and Mezzanine Debt strategies. Ryan joined the Firm in 2019 and leads business development in the Midwest, where he is responsible for all stages of the lifecycle, including deal origination, diligence, and market relations.

Previously, he was an Assistant Vice President with the Venture Banking group at Square 1 Bank where he managed a variety of Midwest-based technology startups and had experience underwriting venture debt deals with a focus on due diligence, debt structuring, risk and financial analysis, market research, enterprise valuation, financial modeling, deal negotiation and portfolio management.

Prior to Square 1, Ryan was with Bank of America Merrill Lynch where he was a senior analyst for the FO/OTC group and was the main point of contact for 20 trading counterparts, including the first and fourth largest FO/OTC clients globally, supporting them in various day-to-day functions.

Ryan received a BS in Finance from the University of Illinois at Chicago with a minor in International Business.
